Blue + Berries on the Black Rock Turnpike in the Town of Fairfield is a unique take on a grocery store and restaurant, fish shop, and bakery, all rolled into one.

The shop opened in November 2021 by Ji Kim and her husband in an effort to bring their love of Asian and Korean food to Fairfield County along with sweet treats.

Visitors to the shop will find fresh fish and a sushi bar on one side and a complete bakery and coffee shop on the other with shelves filled with spices, and other cooking goods in between.

The shop is divided so anyone with shellfish allergies will not be exposed to any allergens while shopping.

Foodies and online reviewers say Blue + Berries brings a much-needed element to cooks and fans of Asian Korean cuisine as well as those with a sweet tooth.

On the fish side, visitors will find such specialties as the aforementioned sushi, along with everything from fried calamari, poke bowls, crab cakes to dumplings, as well as fresh fish of all kinds, including lobster.

On the bakery side the aroma of fresh donuts, scones, cupcakes, and specialty cakes, and the special croissant-waffle hybrid called a croffle. Visitors will also find coffee and drinks to enjoy with their sweet treats.

One reviewer mentioned the shop means they no longer have to travel out of town to find the spices and treats so important to Korean cooking.

The owners say supply chain issues have prevented them from filling the shop fully with the items they have in mind, but hope to have more options in the near future.

Shoppers say the sushi is large and very fresh and the fresh baked goods will melt in your mouth.

Prices are moderate for what you are buying. Service is first-rate.

The shop, at 2205 Black Rock Turnpike, is conveniently located in the Old Navy Plaza with plenty of parking.
